Is ESP Real – Powerful Scientific Evidence of Extra Sensory Perception
What is ESP?
ESP stands for Extra Sensory Perception, a term that was coined to refer to any perceptions beyond the known physical senses of vision, hearing, touch, taste and smell. ESP is a modern term used to describe psychic powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition, etc.
The term ESP is used in the discipline of parapsychology to describe any phenomenon that is outside of our normal five senses. Is ESP real? Let’s find out…
Types of ESP or Psychic Powers
Telepathy – the ability to communicate mentally with others through thoughts
Clairvoyance – the power or ability to see at a distance.
Clairsentience – the ability to hear at a distance.
Precognition – the ability to know events before they happen.
Psychometry – the ability to know or feel information about an object or its owner by holding the object.
Psychokinesis (PK) – the power to move an object without touching it.
Telekinesis (TK) – the ability to move an object remotely through the power of mind.
Is ESP Real?
ESP pr psychic powers have been known and used for thousands of years. There are many historical records and documented cases that describe people with some kind of ESP ability. In modern time there was some scientific research done in some respected universities to investigate ESP.
The term ESP was coined by Duke university professor J B Rhine in 1935 and continued till 1965. Professor Rhine became known as the father of parapsychology. He established a Parapsychology Laboratory, and formed a department of parapsychology as part of the psychology department of Duke University.
There was a lot of research in ESP and PK (Psychokinesis). Here is some scientific research to help you answer the question “is ESP real?”.
The Truth about ESP
University Research in the Field of ESP and Parapsychology
In addition to research conducted at Duke University, other well known universities around the world also conducted ESP and paranormal research including:
Stanford University conducted ESP research from 1972 – 1980. Stanford had conducted research on ESP, PK and other related para-psychological phenomenon, including remote viewing (a modern term for clairvoyance) and the power to bend metal with the power of mind, such as used to be performed by Uri Geller in the seventies. Stanford had a dedicated research center called SRI or Stanford Research Institute.
Princeton University conducted ESP research from1979-20007. Princeton university had formed the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) project, which did extensive research to find out if there is any real scientific basis to ESP or TK (Telekinesis). After 28 years of continuous research, Princeton’s researchers concluded that there actually is a statistical evidence that such powers as ESP, PK and TK are real.
University of Virginia: Division of Perceptual Studies (DPS) from 1967 – Present. DPS research include such reincarnation, past life recall, near death experiences (NDEs), apparitions and after-death communications, altered states of consciousness, as well as many other psychic (psi) experiences.
The University of Arizona: The VERITAS (2006 – 2008) and SOPHIA (2008 – present) Research Programs. Research was focused mainly on the possibility consciousness might survival after death. VERITAS explored the existence of the personality after death. SOPHIA explored the possibility of mediumship and after-death communication with discarnate entities such as angels, spirit and other spiritual entities.
Cornell University (2002 – 2010) had an eight year program to study the phenomena of precognition whic is the ability of a person to predict a future event. Results re-affirming theories within quantum physics. Results of the experiments confirmed the hypothesis that ESP or Psi is real.—and, according to research director Daryl Bem, the odds of getting such a result due to chance are about 1 in 74 billion. Bern’s results also affirmed some quantum physics theories.
University of Edinburgh (1985 – Present). University of Edinburgh parapsychology department had scientific research that explored extrasensory perception (ESP) and psychokinesis (PK).
The university’s Koestler Parapsychology Unit used Twitter to conduct a mass-participation research project related to ESP and remote viewing.
Goldsmiths, University of London. The Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit of the Department of Psychology at Goldsmiths, University of London. is conducting what is called “Mobile Telepathy” tests that are aimed to explore cases of telepathy which are related to people receiving a phone call from someone who they are just thinking about.
University of Adelaide: Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit (2003 – Present). Among other ESP research projects, the university’s research department scientifically explored the hypothesis that the blind compensate for deficits in their physical vision by developing ESP abilities that are statistically superior to those of individuals with normal ocular abilities.
Lund University of Sweden has a long-term research project, to study states of consciousness and parapsychology. The program seeks to find a correlation between highly suggestive individuals and incidences of ESP phenomena such as clairvoyance or telepathy..
Utrecht University – he Netherlands, (1953 and 2008). In 2008, the university held a conference, where lectures were once offered by experts on subjects such as the reality of ESP phenomena, Dreams, hauntings and poltergeist activity, clinical parapsychology, and even quantum physics as it relates to those areas of research.
University of Amsterdam: Anomalous Cognition Section (1990s – Present). Created the Anomalous Cognition Section (ACS), which explored anomalous cognitive effects (such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition). This program ran under the university’s Psychology Department, to study the reality of ESP phenomena.
Conclusion
In summary, there are a great deal of scientific studies that has been and still are being conducted to prove or disprove ESP. One thing to keep in mind is that ESP is based on powers that are beyond our normal physical perception. That makes it really hard to measure in a lab and try to prove its existence through mechanisms that rely on our physical senses.
There are certain exercises and techniques that you can try to test and develop your ESP, and thus prove or disprove the reality of ESP for yourself.
Some believe that ESP abilities are as natural as our five physical senses, and some individuals have more capacity than others in this regard. It is also believed that there are ways to develop one’s psychic faculties. Care should be taken, and progress should be monitored by an experienced teacher. So, Is ESP real? What do you think?
